When I checked my cell yesterday morning at about 10.45am, anticipation was streaming in my blood as my eyes quickly scanned the small square color-screen. France won the 3am match with a 2-0 over Togo. While the Swiss won with a 2-0 as well. With that, the first few sentences that came from my mouth was, 'Oh yeah...oh yeah...' while doing some ridiculous jiggy. The two wins meant that France was in for the next round! Joy!
The day before, I was in the car with my dad, carefully scrutinizing the standings of the groups. After making quick calculations, I explained out loud that France still had a chance to make it for the next round and escape from an early elimination. Dad said it wasn't possible. I said it was. Provided France were to win the match against Togo and Switzerland to win the match against S.Korea. With that, the French could make a leap-frog over the S.Korean team, thus edging them out for the crucial position of being in the next stage. Dad said it was not an easy task as the Koreans were good. I knew that, but I also knew the Swiss are no-pushovers either. And boy, was I right. I love it when I'm right. Oh yeah. Japan had to go home unfortunately. Sigh.
The dilemma here however, is despite the fact that as much I wanted France to head into the next round, I don't want them to be in the next round having to face a particular team. Spain. Why??? Of all teams, it has to be my other favorite. Unfair! Okay, so it was expected due to the positions in their respective group, but...sigh. Spain. France. Spain. France. And as much as I hate to say it, I think the Spaniards would have the edge over the French, not that I don't want Spain to win, but well, I don't want France to lose either. It's confusing, really. Only one makes it to the next round, so no matter what, one team has to face the losing music. It's hard to pick a team to root for especially when your favorite players are in both teams. Henry and Trezeguet in France, while Cesc, Casillas and Torres in Spain. They are actually the main reasons why I actually support these two nations, though for Spain the reason has changed cause the way the play are just too good for me to ignore. Those passes, crosses, goal shots...it's like a dream team. They work so well together. And yes, the bias in me as an Arsenal fan is the cause of my support for the nations of the Arsenal players. Lol. However, my love for the Spanish team wins over the French by a slight percentage, so I guess on Wednesday morning, I'll be on the maroon-red/yellow side. Sigh. That match will be the match to cause me high blood pressure and extreme anxiety at such a young age.
Football is just too overwhelming. Just watching the Argentina v Mexico team prepare getting into extra time after a 1-1 draw, was enough to make me feel the adrenaline rushing in my veins as I anticipated the next oncoming minutes. For two teams that I do not really bloody care about, yet there I was...feeling anxious and shaky, holding my breath. It's just the effect football gives. The thrill, excitement, anticipation. Doesn't matter which team's playing. The game's...well, like Nike's new line of shoes, 'Joga Bonito'...simply beautiful. I've learn to appreciate the game more, based on the skills and plays on the field, rather than (as I embarrassingly admit) just the guys on the field. Catching the goals made by Podolski (Germany) and Rodriguez (Argentina), especially the one made by Rodriguez, I simply have to stand up and salute the football players. And declare that football is the MOST brilliant game that anyone could have thought of, that and the fact that the 'creator' of football is an absolute genius and I thank him for bringing this game to come about. Oh yeah.
Besides football though, I have to say that my life is coming to a serious side of weirdness. I don't really know what I'm doing most of the time as I've been spending my days working and flicking through the job recruitment page occasionally, just to see what's up in the job market. Plus, I can't believe that there is STILL an absence of chocolates in my home until now. It's a miracle that I can last without them for so long. July is coming and I have yet to actually take the law test for driving...just because. I'm supposed to get some stuff from Ikea for my room, but I still haven't done so and I have no idea what's stopping me, well maybe the fact that I need those bloody most-liquid assets anyone could have, also known as banknotes, in order to actually buy what I want.
Just yesterday some guy tried to edged in some wise-crack comment in attempt to make smile. It was a horrible attempt really. He was mentioning to Auntie Sui Fong the reason he was at 1U without any friends (or a girl) with him, stating that he wanted to see some certain 'leng lui' (pretty girl). Auntie Sui Fong responded with a joke of 'Whoever could that be?', before he answered with a pointed finger at her and a 'You', to which she laughed at his corny joke. He then proceeded to say in a louder tone of voice, 'Including the one there who is busy arranging the shelves'. I guess I should mention now that I was arranging the shelves at that moment, not paying whatsoever attention to him ever since he came in. He continued by saying that I was probably smiling at the compliment even though he can't see my face, but he just knows.
That, was the understatement for the month of June. I wasn't smiling at all but paying deep concentration in trying to get the little packets of heart embroidery and whatnots to behave themselves and stay on the metal hooks. I guess unknown to him, not all girls actually have a reaction to smile when she's called 'leng lui' be it directly or not. He then proceeded to try to make me smile again with a few more 'pathetic' attempts of looking at me in the eye and prodding me to agree with him on whatever he was rambling on, with the smirk on his face. A few more comments about how I was happily smiling at his 'tales' of his friends and ex-girlfriends, really made me think the guy was probably desperate for attention, probably not used to not getting the attention he so thinks he deserves. I wasn't even smiling at his 'tales' but only out of politeness(and the thought of the impending match between Spain-France).
Really. I know he's not interested in me, to which I'm absolutely sure he's not, and as cute as it may sound of his attempts and behaviour, I absolutely dislike the way he was trying to get me to smile and making himself believe that I'm actually amused and pleased with him. Ever since high school, I have this absolute disliking toward guys who actually try to pride on themselves for making me (or any girl, for that matter) smile, blush, feel all giggly-like, etc. Do not boost your ego that way. It's stupid really. Whatever made you think that a girl would be pleased with the boasting of your talent to make girls flutter at the sight/thought/sound of you? I sound bitter, maybe so, but I doubt it. Why can't he just take the normal route by actually smiling at me instead of cracking lame comments? Or maybe give a genuine, sincere sentence, with a smile. That is guaranteed to make any girl smile back warmly.
This is stupid. I don't even know why I want to blog about it. I don't even give a bloody care. However, there's the fact that I can't stop thinking about that smirk on his face. That bloody arrogant smirk of his, is making me smile now. Damn.
